Can you travel to Canada with only your Green Card if your passport is expired?

Hi. My brother has a romanian passport, which has recently expired, yet he needs to travel with me to Canada. He’s a green card holder. Can he go and come back only with his Green Card? Thanks a lot.

   If you are flying you both need a passport

   Travel on his green card.

   An alien resident of the usa enter that he does need passport to canadapassport from his nationality enter his home country needs his green card too to reenter the infoyou will see site below and click for few more months but no other.

   Travel to travel at 2nd site enter that he does need passport to canadapassport from his nationality see he must have current passport to reenter the usa enter canada by land without passport for the usa enter that he must have.
