Which way to travel would be best to get from canada to europe?

I’m planning a trip, not this year, but for next year to europe for a few monthes. Which is the cheapest way to travel from canada to europe? I don’t want to fly. I was told freighter was good and cheap.
I’m thinking of getting a 3 month Eurail pass, which goes to 20 different countries, really want to go to Ireland though, and England.

   I can’t see anything being cheaper than flying. Just go on Travelocity.com.. I’m from Canada too, where do you wanna go?
